Temporary absence of the bots!

Post  LuMagic on Fri 15 Feb 2013 - 15:13

An important announcement from Mister Magic

I have bad news for you.

I received an email from a private administrator at Cyan, asking me to not use robots in order to make tests and to see if they are the cause of the failures of the server.

Here is the text I received on the forum Myst Online response to a request I made two days ago to change my user name on this forum (Replace Bumblebee by Mister Magic, best known of all).

Hello Bumblebee,

Before I change your forum username, I would like to have a short discussion
with you regarding your bot, if you don't mind.

As you may or may not be aware, there have been brown outs with the
servers that eventually lead to a crash if the database chokes. Because
this happens most often on the weekends and on Thursdays, we have
suspected that it is related to player activity.

Today, our server monitoring software started complaining and I logged into the
game to see if I could observe any online behavior that could contribute
to the server issues we have been experiencing. I was able to log into
the game just fine (the server alarms were still chiming and increasing
in elevation) and I linked to the City. I caught the tail end of a
conversation that indicated the machine the bot was on had been
rebooted. At this time, the server alarms stopped and I observed that
players then continued with visiting the magic ages without further
incident.

We would like to observe further whether or not your
magic bot is contributing to the server issues (which in turn causes
account creations issues, which elevates the number of customer support
tickets, which eats up CAVCON funds, etc...). We would like to
coordinate with you (and your group of players) to see if we can run a
test to observe server activity. Would this be possible? If tomorrow
won't work, then could we shoot for Tuesday? Until we do run this test,
we are asking that you not use your bot on the MOULa servers - there
will be no one here at Cyan this weekend (it is a long holiday weekend
in the US) to restart the servers should they go down over the weekend.

One other question for you, does your bot access the MOULa vault directly or indirectly in any way?

Please let me know your feedback on this issue and if we will be able to coordinate a test tomorrow.

Thank you!

Tor'i

I replied that I agreed to perform the tests.
I do not know where it will lead. But if it turns out that the use of robots can disrupt the server; this will be the end of MagicBot and Mimibot.

I hope this is not the case.

In the meantime, there will be no Magic Evening today.
I ask you to please spread these news to all explorers who dont already know.

However, as I said before, Cyan is a company that aims to make a profit. And this is normal. If so, it turns out that robots are a cause of losing money then they will be banned from the server Moula.
They prefer to lose players that money, believe me.

So I decided actually, and as long as I do not have the confidence to continue to place the robot on the official server, to stop all development.
It would be absurd for me to waste my time if it is not working any more.
I hope you understand my decision.

An important announcement from Mister Magic

I think about what might cause problems on a server from the robots.

I talked at length with Stone this morning who developed the robot Stone5 for the football field of Kaaja at Cleft.

We returned to the problem in every sense and we see only two possibilities for the server perfurber with our robots.

1. a lot of connexions of players at the same time to the age of the robot.
2. A mass of commands send to the robot during a short period of time.

These two cases can indeed overwhelm the server, causing a major lag that can lead disconnection of some players. But this does not explain the problem "Authentication failed

You have probably noticed that when there is alot of players in a magical age, the response time of the robot to the send of your order may sometimes be very long. So you think that the robot is out of service.
What happens when the robots are going to receive the commands ?
The commands received by the robots are stacked on top of each other and are analyzed by the robot in the order they are received. This is the principle of "First in, first out."
On the other hand, it also depends on the connection speed of the robots. Currently, as you could see you, my connection is really bad.

About the vault (vault) which is mentioned in the email from Cyan, I see no command of my scripts that modifies the vault directly.
But indirectly I think it is possible.
I think at the fact that linking age of the robot is changed. All of the Ages used are those of Magicbot. So the name of an age, as you know should be "Magicbot's Hood", for example. But I change the name and it becomes to "Magic Hood", ditto for other ages.

This does not create a new instance in the vault because it is always the same "GUID" that is used (ie the same single number of the object), but as you can see , it adds an entry ( a directory) in your KI.
I can edit it easily, this is not a problem.
Otherwise I don't see how the robots could disrupt the server and especially not the server that allows us to connect with our password and user password.

So we must waiting for the tests. I do not know if those will be made tonight or next week. confused

No reason to be pessimistic yet

Post  Magic Tom on Sat 16 Feb 2013 - 11:19

My friends,
It is logical that Cyan wants to find out what causes the server problems of the last months. Maybe is is caused by the Bots, maybe not. If it is not the Bots, than no worries! Soon we will have our 'magic events' back! Very Happy
But if it indeed is caused by the Bots, than we have a problem. But problems can be solved, isn't it? Banning all the Bots is, in my eyes a bridge too far. In that case perhaps a 'midway' can be find, as: Only one Bot at a time online in Uru; limited players can get acces to the magic Ages; or commands given to the Bots must be more 'streamlined' as it seemed they can handle only a limited orders. Maybe something can be made that if a player send a command to the Bot, it can respond in a way as: "Sorry I am too busy now to handle your order. Please try later at a more quiet time."
While waiting at the results of the investigations of Cyan, I want to say that you have done a wonderful job, Michel (Mister Magic)! You have given many players such splendid moments here! cheers We will never forget this, even if the Bots indeed must leave the D'ni universe... Due to you Uru has become richer and more colourful. Thank you for that! Smile

Good news this time

Magicbot spent yesterday its tests successfully with two Admin Cyan.
Connectivity test mass, sending games Markers, notes and photos aids, commands to change outfits, and many others ... all commands sent by the robot Magic players Gahreesen were positive: bounce

Mister Magic and robots are exonerated of server problems.alien

Mister Magic was congratulated for his work with robots that provide a lot of fun in the cave.

Thank you to you all for your cooperation in this test and have fun in our magical Ages: cheers

It was to say that I fell into the bottom to lose them.
All friends whom there was there danced it very much yesterday when I heard this happy news in Mystpedia Hood.

Merci pour nous.

Really thank you very much from my family. Wink

Inernet Issues

Post  LuMagic on Sun 23 Nov 2014 - 19:04

Shorah All.

Due to internet issues Mister Magic can't put his Bots ONLINE. Sad

And of course, he can't work on the programmation of the last part of the FMT.

So, we have to wish him better days. And tell him how we think to him. I love you

ps: Thank heaven sometimes MM gets a connexion, then, when you see the Bots, enjoy your time with them.
Cross our fingers.
