A Falling Man

Post  Peke on Thu 17 Oct 2013 - 8:51

My older sister met Jet Magical Rocker (Mr. Jet blast) in Magic City a few days ago. Very Happy
Because he had a very interesting talk, she checked Jet blast. study
Then she found such a thing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SXMDanger.jpg

This is "Falling Man" to see by Myst well. Shocked

I asked a Japanese friends about this, but there was not the person who knew the detailed thing.
Question Is a signboard the thing which existed earlier than Myst?
If there is a person knowing that it has a lot on a design of Falling Man, please tell me. Wink

I found this :

Definition
Jet Blast is defined as the force or wind generated behind a jet engine, particularly on or before take-off when high/full power is set, but also when the aircraft is taxiing.

Description
Jet Blast can be hazardous to other aircraft, particularly light aircraft, and people in the vicinity of the aircraft and can cause damage to equipment, buildings, and pavement surfaces.

So, I suppose that because Jet Blast is a guitarist, when he play music, he can realize the effect of moving through its powerful  speakers!rire

Jet Blast is the name of a French punk rock band. If you go on YouTube, you can watch one of their gigs. Our "Jet Blast" is indeed the guitarist of the group.

I would expect the Falling Man on the Myst cover to be original to Cyan.  However it is possible that a stock image was used - but if so I can't find an independent reference for it in any stock image catalog today.  So it is most likely that the first appearance of that image is on the Myst cover.  It isn't a screenshot from the game - when Atrus falls into the cleft during the intro he is wearing a long coat.

It isn't used by Cyan as a logo or identity marker to any extent.  The Falling Man group who organises the Mysterium cons does use the logo a lot and maybe it has passed into public knowledge from there.

The particular Jet blast sign is from Wikimedia commons and is located at the well-known and tiny Caribbean island of Saint Martin, where the international airport runway starts and ends next to a beach.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4e/Saint-Martin_Island_topographic_map-en.svg

The runway is big enough for 747's to use

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK3jGwA5tok

There doesn't seem to be a standard "jet blast" warning sign.  I suspect this is because there are few places where one is needed, in most cases there is a lot of space between the runway and publicly accessible areas.  Warning signs on air bases and airside at airports are mostly text-only, as the personnel know the risks and just need a reminder.  So the sign at St Martin is a one-off and the use of the familiar-to-us falling man is probably coincidental, especially if the sign was made in the last ten years or so.

Jet Blast is both a French rock group and a player in MOUL.  They had five tracks in the first section of D'nipalooza.

Thank you very much Alan!! I wanted to know it. cheers
When my older sister (Toki) talked with Jet Blast, she checked the Internet because he was a musician.
She found this signboard then.
Because pictures of this signboard were quoted well in a site about Myst, we misunderstood it when both we were them. confused

In other words Falling Man which this Falling Man and Cyan used in an opening of Myst is a different thing. alien

Ohhh, Michel. Please help me. Wink

The indication of the URL that I introduced by an upper article is strange.
It is only a page of Falling Man that I want to introduce.
Question Even if I am going to revise it so much, I cannot revise it well.
I bother you, and I am sorry, can you remove an unnecessary part?

(My English is poor, and I'm sorry. Embarassed )

Thanks
Peke
